Ombra Lighting Design“Lighting defines the experience of a space. It’s the element that makes a guest feel something before they can put it into words.”
Ombra Lighting Design works to create atmosphere, revealing texture and shaping how people move through and experience a space. Every scheme begins not with a specification, but with a story.
Our Philosophy
We design integrated lighting solutions that enhance texture, form, and colour, combining technical precision with innovative technology to deliver outcomes that are clear, purposeful, and visually distinctive.
Working in close collaboration with architects, interior designers, and clients, we bring together creative thinking and advanced technology to deliver schemes that are as functional as they are beautiful.
Who We Are
Ombra's founders came together after careers at some of London's most respected lighting design consultancies, united by a conviction that truly exceptional lighting is as much about atmosphere and narrative as it is about technical precision.
Their combined 30 years of experience spans luxury hospitality, high-end residential, commercial, landscape and superyacht projects, developed in close collaboration with architects and interior designers of international standing. This depth of practice has given them a nuanced understanding of how light shapes architecture, reveals material, and defines the way people experience a space.

What We Deliver
Our staged approach aligns with the RIBA Plan of Work, enabling structured reviews with the client and design team at each phase to ensure the project remains on track and achieves its intended vision.
We review the project brief and discuss requirements and aspirations with the client and design team. A lighting concept is then developed and presented for approval. A site visit may be required at this stage.
With the concept agreed, we produce schematic lighting layouts, preliminary control strategies, and generic lamp and luminaire specifications, sufficient for the design team and electrical contractor to incorporate into the MEP package.
We produce a fully coordinated construction package: detailed lighting layouts with setting-out dimensions, a complete luminaire and lamp specification, an electrical load schedule, and a full controls specification. Close coordination with the architect, interior designer, AV, landscape, and M&E consultants is carried out at this stage.
We visit site periodically to monitor the quality and progress of the lighting installation, coordinating to resolve conflicts with other services or architectural elements and issuing revisions as required.
Once the project is complete and FFE items are in position, we commission the lighting scheme and carry out lighting styling: adjusting and aiming fixtures, programming scenes, and refining the installation in close collaboration with the client and design team. Evening visits to site are typically required.
Our Approach
Every scheme draws inspiration from the architectural language of the space itself: its materials, its proportions, and the natural light it already receives, revealing the play of light and shadow that gives a place its character.
Artificial lighting is designed to work in balance with daylight, reinforcing its changing qualities throughout the day. As natural light fades, the lighting scheme gradually takes over, maintaining warmth, comfort, and visual continuity from day to night.
